A โforeign bodyโ is the medical term for something from the outside, that is not a part of our natural โhumanโ body. It has nothing to do with nationality nor sensuality. Some places we can get foreign bodies include:
- The Throat / Trachea โ like choking on something stuck in the โwrong pipeโ (people die from this; see Foreign Body Aspiration
- The Earย — like cotton from a Q-tip; Iโve seen a few patients with cockroaches there
- The Noseย —ย little children put beans and other things up inside; see Nasal Foreign Body for a clever way to remove
- The Eyeย —ย specks of whatever can be blown in and stuck on the cornea or conjunctiva
- The Vaginaย — young girls put things up inside; tampons get forgotten; sex toys break off
- The Rectum —ย sex toys get stuck
- The Skinย —ย splinters, etc., are foreign bodies (can cause infections, which may linger despite antibiotics until the thing gets removed)
A โforeign bodyโ can wind up, one way or another, in virtually any part of the โhuman body.โ Depending on where it is, there are all sorts of ways to remove them (usually surgically). Some, like bullets or shrapnel, are often simply left untouched if causing no harm.
